Jobs roles and responsibilities :

As a horticultural manager you would oversee the development and growth of plants for one of the following:

• production / commercial horticulture – producing food crops and ornamental plants for sale to wholesalers, retailers, nurseries, garden centres and directly to the public
• garden centres – producing plants for sale to the public
• turf farms – growing turf (grass) for commercial and residential applications
• parks and gardens – designing, constructing, managing and maintaining areas such as parks, botanic gardens or public green spaces.

Your day-to-day tasks might include:

• managing, and possibly helping with, all aspects of cultivation
• developing new products and markets and negotiating with suppliers
• designing layouts and developing planting programs
• scheduling the planting and harvesting of crops
• making sure that health and safety regulations and procedures are followed
• maintaining a skilled and trained workforce.
